it's the great pumpkin (patch), charlie brown

a pumpkin patch is an unknown to the inmates of terra australis, as is the whole halloween thing really. we understand the concept but we don't know.
well i am happy to say as a former inmate, that the whole pumpkin patch deal was a thoroughly delightful experience from beginning to end.

half the fun was driving by multiple pumpkin patches searching for the ever so elusive heiser farms. why drive by other pumpkin patches? well, visit heiser farms and find out for yourself.
so it was the last day of the working week and all was quiet at the farm, so our expanded clan basically had the run of the farm. before we even reached the actual pumpkin patch, the kids were having the time with the hay maze, the slides and the water pump race to name a few.

once we reached the patch, it was an amazing sight. pumpkins of all colours, shapes and sizes as far as the eye could see. the abundance was captivating to these virgin eyes.
as an added bonus were the occasional seven foot tall sunflowers. they were past their best before date but nothing could take away their grandeur. i would never have imagined!

less words and more pictures...

have we fall(en) into winter?

when you leave cobbing until the beginning of the tenth month of the gregorian calendar in the northwest of the united states of america, you are at the mercy of the elements. so that is where we currently stand.
realistically, the completion date is about five months before we graduate to the new earth.

we shall continue to cob in coming days if the rains go away and mister sun, mister golden sun comes out and plays.
there is still the so-called phenomenon known as the indian summer. let us hope that it is such a thing and not just two words placed together, say for instance like dick face. nah mean?

anyways we actually started cobbing on the first of the misleading month known as october. october does not make sense. it needs to be updated and made relevant, as it continually confuses.
organically every member of the fam (even poppy) came down to cob during the first day, which was wonderful. the theme of the day was learning the soil we were working with, which is important so we get the best consistency. the walls after all are going to bear the weight of the roof, along with the weight of themselves.
the rains made a cameo even before the first sod of soil was laid on the tarp. i guess that was an omen.
the second of the tenth brought some friends and steady progress was made considering we are still in the learning process. so i would like to thank each and every generous soul who came and helped for their time and effort. infinite love all day every day. hopefully that will be the beginning of many more work parties.
once the late afternoon hit on the second that was all. the fat lady was done warming up and the heavens opened and we were finished and not just for the day. is it ok to have three ands in a sentence? meh.

so in short, our full-time project has been scaled back to part-time and may be scaled back further in the coming weeks. precipitation and the cold will dictate.

watch this space for our new endeavour. peace.
