We have done this before when we sold our house in Australia to move into a Motorhome. It is not an easy process when you accumulate things and stuff over time. We have only a year of accumulating things and stuff but it gets overwhelming when you think you have to find places and homes for things and stuff. I have spent many a long hour fretting over our things and stuff which really is messed up. What a way to live, worrying where your possessions (not even prized ones of that) are going to go. My reasoning is to not waste. We have many a thing that other beings would gratefully take and it's that idea of matching the people and the goods together. What makes it worse with all this fretting is the things and stuff have little or no meaning to me. So why do I cause this stress? It's super silly if you ask me. I need to rewire my circuitry.
So this transition also marks the time when we shift our focus to the future dwelling. This is where we start calling in favours from our fellow humans.
Above all, our need is extra hands. They say it takes a community to raise a baby and it's with that community we are hoping to complete the house during the upcoming months.
So this is a call to hands, the more hands the better. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for upcoming work parties. This will be life-changing work. At worst maybe not directly for you the helper but definitely for us. As a flow on effect you will know you have changed a family's life for the
Here is where we currently sit -
We have acquired a bunch of medium to large rocks/boulders for the retaining wall and foundation, however we are searching for more all the time.
We have possibly been hooked up with a couple windows and a door or two and some metal sheeting for the roofing but more would be gravy.
We are going to need lumber for the roof.
We are going to need sand for the Cob mixture.
If anybody can help in any way to acquire the above listed materials then that would awesome. Each attempt of help would be appreciated on a grand scale in my mind.
We need to call in a favour from Mother Nature in the form of an Indian Summer or the like. Nice long warm days until mid-October would be very helpful. Mother Nature, this is my plea to you. Please act as you will.
Now let's talk about where we sit in regards to building. We have all but prepared the pad for the foundation and the retaining wall is progressing but it's the finer details that take the hardest work.
A decision was made this weekend not to hook it up to the electric grid. We are going to start old school. Lanterns, candles and all that awesomeness for lighting. In time Solar Power is the goal.
We shall not to be hooked up septic either or sewer so we will be building a Compostable Outhouse. We are not going to shit in our house. Seems right.
For cooking and hot water purposes we will hook up to our own propane tank.
For water, that is something I have not got an answer for yet. Water for a family of five adds up for sure! Basically we hook up to rainwater or link to Grizzly's water which is sourced from a well. The well water is really sulphury which is fine for showering and cooking but not for drinking. At least in my book. I don't really know the logistiocs of the well water hook up so I guess that subject needs to be addressed.
So if you are interested in this progress feel free to drop Jen or me a line, email, facebook message, text or if you got the skillz try Telepathy. We are willing participants in that.
